Professor Edward Ullendorff writes of Oppenhejm's memoir that her account of life in Theresienstadt focuses on the daily experiences of the Nazis' unfortunate victims there. She records the sufferings of her fellow-prisoners with no intention of making a historical record, simply out of human sympathy. He says 'Her story ... cannot but be read with emotion.' She survived together with the two of her four sons who were also deported. The preface is written by her son Ralph Oppenhejm. Theresienstadt concludes with a selection from the photographs and illustrations supplied by Ralph. It joins earlier Menard books telling of experiences in occupied Europe in World War Two.
